What I Did Last Summer
The Arts House Trust Gallery | 10 Dec 2025 - 8 Feb 2026

Our new exhibition from The Arts House Trust explores themes of summertime and memories of holidays past. The works range from bold, abstract compositions rich in colour to more scenic and whimsical pieces, evoking the simple pleasures and nostalgic charm of travel and leisure in Aotearoa

Several works bring to mind childhood journeys from the city into the countryside, depicting rural landscapes and subjects. The exhibition's key work, Beachcomber (1986) by Paul Woodruffe, is a small painting that conjures memories of long, idle days spent on the beach, exploring rock pools, and swimming. In contrast, the large abstract paintings evoke summer as a sensory experience”
