Colours - Black White Grey

2 May- 31 May 2026 | Community Gallery

Exhibition Opening Event:  Saturday 2 May 6pm

It started with two cousins – Hinewai Tutahi and Fay Tutahi. One saying to the other, why don’t we have a joint exhibition. Fay thinking a bit longer and wider put a proposal in for a whanau exhibition- knowing there were a lot of creatives in the Tutahi-Rahiri whanau. She only had to convince them.

And here we are fourteen Creatives sharing our take on life. All presenting whanau artists have varying degrees of skill and experience in the Art world, home grown in Aotearoa and extending across the oceans. Some traditional skills have been taught by whanau, learnt on marae, or at learning institutions.

We bring to you a range of traditional to contemporary artforms – Puipui -Raranga - Hue, Korowai, and a variety of drawing, printing, painting, adornments with a story to tell.

Talking about the Kaupapa - Black White and Grey – it just seemed so straight forward in the beginning, life is like that Black, White, Grey. As our exhibitors increased and time moved forward, our thinking changed, the inclusion of Colours threw a whole new spin on it.
