Matariki Photographic Exhibition

'Remember the past, celebrate the present and plan for the future'
9 July - 14 August 2022

Submit a photo by Friday 1 July that speaks to one of the three key themes of Matariki:
1: Remembrance – Honouring those we have lost since the last rising of Matariki
2: Celebrating the present – Gathering together to give thanks for what we have
3: Looking to the future – Looking forward to the promise of a New Year

Drop your A3 size or smaller unframed work into the gallery (with name, title and contact number on the back) or email to info@morrinsvillegallery.org.nz with your name, the title of the work and your contact details.


Arts on Tuesday

Join us at the gallery on the first Tusday of the month for art talks, live performance and morning tea.

In June we are pleased to welcome Craig McClure and Jeremy Mayall to Arts on Tuesday, who will be discussing their new exhibition Pb.1.2022.

Free Workshop 

‘Introduction to Charcoal Drawing’ with Susan Roome

Sunday 3rd April 1pm - 3pm

Join Susan for a free two hour workshop at the gallery and learn about the properties of charcoal as a medium through demonstrations, followed by practical application.

All drawing materials will be provided, please bring a pair of disposable gloves and an apron.

The workshop will be held in Community Creative Space at the Wallace Art Gallery

Art Wānanga

Starting at 9am each day
We are pleased to be able to hold the scheduled Te Toi Tūāhu Project Art Wānanga on the 16th and 17th of October. Following on from Kaupapa Matariki is Kaupapa Māori Art with guest artists plus materials and kai provided. The art created will then go on to be exhibited in the gallery and further public spaces.
For those who have signed up – we look forward to seeing you at 9am this coming Saturday and Sunday at the gallery, 167 Thames Street, Morrinsville.

Our mid-winter Makers' Market 2021 is coming up!

Saturday 24 July, 10am - 3pm

School Holiday Workshop

Open to students 6 years and up, we have two fun art workshops on Thursday the 22nd of July!

MORNING WORKSHOP 10am -12pm: 'Up-Cycled Jewellery Making' with Haneen $30
AFTERNOON WORKSHOP 12.30pm -2pm: 'Thumb Pots' with Gemma $20

Students can attend one or both! ($40 to attend both)     Email the gallery to book.

Matariki Exhibition

This year to celebrate Te Matatahi o Te Tau the Matamata Piako Libraries, together with the Wallace Art Gallery have created a kaupapa.
Now underway with 'In-library' wānanga this kaupapa will move into a second phase of fun and creative activities within the art gallery.
