Jenni taris completed the ceramics diploma at Waikato poly tech, starting in 1982 studying part time for five years, weekend schools and pottery gathering learning a lot from other potters, her work has been in several National exhibitions and several group and solo exhibitions. Jenni Taris taught pottery classes at WSP for twelve years and now mentors several people in the ceramic work, she sells her work from galleries mostly and visitors to her studio and workshop in Matangi.
Having exhibited in several national exhibitions and art galleries around Aotearoa, including Whakaaturanga Gallery (Morrinsville), Paeroa Society of Art (Paeroa) and Welcome Swallow Fine Art Gallery and Gifts (Hamilton). She returns to Morrinsville Gallery for a solo show in the Awatea Gallery.
For Jenni, clay is the vehicle to take her inner emotions on a journey into infinite creativity. Using illusions of form, showing physical strength and the inner emotion to give answers to questions.
She has found that pottery connects people from all walks of life. Taking individuals on an almost spiritual journey of self-discovery, learning emotional skills such as patience and resilience. Often at times frustrating as pieces are so fragile and can break during the process. Pottery is a continual experiment and a learning tool – creatively, emotionally, and physically.
Jenni enjoys passing on her expertise and looks forward to supporting us with workshops here in Morrinsville Gallery on Tuesdays 13th and 20th from 12.30 – 2.30.
