Smudged, splattered, and caked on, PAINT brings together works that celebrate the physicality and sheer joy of painting. Rather than being smoothed and blended to the point of invisibility, in these works paint is at the forefront.  

Thick discs of dried paint become sculptures. Brushstrokes take on an energy and movement of their own but also recall the artist pushing paint across canvas. Nods to Picasso and Van Gogh invite us to think about the contemporary painters producing these works, and their place in a long history of artists creating beauty from paint.  

PAINT showcases a selection of paintings and sculptures from the Wallace Arts Trust Collection, from the 1970s to today. This exhibition highlights the expressive, intimate, and sometimes messy relationship between painter and paint. 

Featuring works by Gretchen Albrecht, Star Gossage, Cat Fooks, Toss Woollaston, Hannah Ireland and more.
