The Waikato Embroiderers' Guild
bi-annual Exhibition

9 September  - 5 October 2025

Pop along and be inspired by all the wonderful examples of embroidery and talk with the artists and organisers themselves. This lovely testament to skill, inclusive practice and creativity includes a stunning variety of embroidery techniques and is a free entry event.

In the words of Margaret Rietema the President of the Waikato Guild, with regards to this exhibition, "I think that the most noteworthy thing about our exhibition is the variety of embroidery technique from the very delicate traditional work, to the more contemporary work and everything in between. There is also a display of the various classes we have had with a variety of tutors, teaching a range of techniques and embroidery styles. Our bi-annual show has been a very popular exhibition in the past and we trust this will be as well".

This year the Community Gallery houses a guest creative group led by Liz Wilson, a well know teacher and local fibre artist. The group is named Needle Edge and their 'show within a show' is called Threadbare.

The exhibition is very inclusive, with approximately 130 pieces of embroidery on display, it includes work from most members and covers all levels. Many of the embroiderers have been stitching since they were very young, others have taken it up recently.

Members' ages range from early 30's to our oldest being 103, (who still attends every Wednesday morning). Members travel from far and wide, including, Ngāruawāhia, Te Awamutu, Putaruru, Tirau, Hamilton, Morrinsville, Rotorua, Taupiri, Ohaupo and Thames to the weekly Wednesday meetings from 10-2 at St James' Church, 82 Nixon Street, Hamilton East.

Visitors are always welcome, get in touch to join their very supportive group and inclusive group. There is also a monthly meeting every 3rd Saturday of the month from 10.30. With the aim to have a speaker at those meetings.
